About Wonkagranny

Welcome to my website, Wonkagranny!

The first question is always – Where did you come up with that name?

I am a big fan of Roald Dahl’s books. I love Dahl’s penchant for making up words that aren’t in any dictionary like scrumdiddlyumptious, and lickswishy, (good things) or uckyslush, and rotsome, (bad things) or crodsquinkled (when you are caught doing something you shouldn’t).

I especially like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There are lessons to be learned – avoid selfishness and greed, avoid too much media and violence, avoid gluttony, avoid arrogance – all the frailties embodied by Veruca Salt, Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregard, and Mike Teavee. Always be honest and loyal to those who love you as portrayed by Charlie and the Bucket family. Willie Wonka is the purveyor of dreams; challenging Charlie to step up and follow his dream to make his life and that of his family better. The Golden Ticket.

Thus I strive to be a granny who, like Willie Wonka, encourages dreams to be followed and life to be lived with delicious exuberance – in short, a wonkagranny. Plus everything is better with chocolate.
